This half-day tour takes you along the countryside outside Arequipa. You will get pleasure from the nice farmlands and observe the typical agriculture terraces of the pre-Inca and Inca epochs. In the middle of the green fields you`ll find Molino de Sabandia, a charming 17th century flour mill, made of sillar (volcanic rock), powered by a neighboring waterfall, and the Founder's Mansion, a fully restored XVI century hacienda that belonged to the city's founder. Then it was sold to the Jesuits, who used it as a retreat center. You will also visit its beautiful fully restored church.
Please note:The visit to the Founder`s Mansion can be substituted for a visit to the exhibit of the mummy Juanita. Visit the Museo Santuarios Andinos Universidad Catolica Santa Maria-Cervesur to see Juanita, the frozen mummy of a young Inca girl, discovered in 1995 on Mt. Ampato. Juanita died more than 500 years ago, a sacrificial offering to the Inca gods. Her body was preserved by the freezing temperatures on the mountain, and is kept in a refrigerated case in the museum.
