Bogota - Cartagena - Santa Marta
Trip Summary
3 nights in Bogota

Bogota today is a modern city with an intense and vibrant cultural, intellectual and social life. Picturesque, with an important architectural heritage, the world's best Pre-Columbian art collection and fantastic museums, it also is a city of futuristic architecture with enormous modern buildings.
3 nights in Cartagena

Walk through Cartagena's welcoming alleys and streets and you will discover one of the most fascinating towns in the Caribbean, with a uniquely romantic atmosphere and well-preserved colonial architectural treasures. To add to its Caribbean Sea appeal, Cartagena guards inside its walls the largest fortification in the Americas built during Colonial times to protect it from pirates and buccaneers. Throw in the cultural mélange resulting from the Spanish-indigenous mix and you have a vibrant city that should be on every traveler must-see list.
2 nights in Santa Marta

This is Colombia's oldest colonial city, with numerous historic sites, monuments, and buildings that are part of the country's colonial architecture and culture and led it to be called a 'Tourist, Cultural and Historic District'. Along the Santa Marta beaches, the sea is calm because of the protection provided by the mountain range. Experts say that the wind passes by without affecting the area; it is safe from the hurricanes that affect other coastal areas of the Atlantic. It's true! The Santa Marta beaches have never suffered from that natural phenomenon. Santa Marta and its bay and surroundings are full of magic.

itinerary Details [+]
We had a wonderful trip. We are so thankful to April Astiles for all her effort and help. All connections and reservations were just as promised; this part of our trip was seamless. I loved the Hotel Parque 97 in Bogota. The breakfast was good; I loved the arepas. For us, it was centrally located. We travelled to Candelaria twice by the public bus (the best bus system I have seen - a great experience); and, we went to the Salt Mines in Zipuera - by public bus. At night, we took cabs to Zona T, and had a ball at Andre DC. We used the Gym (located a short 2 blocks), and even got a free salsa lesson. The staff was very helpful; not every spoke fluent English, but there always found someone to help us. Cab transportation to/from the airport was about 20 minutes. The area was safe, both day and night. I felt very safe in Bogota; one just has to exercise a common sense and be aware as in most major cities. We went to Cartagena via Copa airlines (again, a flawless arangement). I loved the fact airport personnel issued a document indicating the exact cost of the trip from the airport to the Hotel Caribe. The room was a little dated, but very clean; geat high cealings. The bed was so comfortable, airconditioning worked great, and hot water was always available. The pool was huge, and the surrounding area was great; chairs very comfortable. Breakfast was great; the fruit was so sweet. Cabs to the walled city were less than $3.50, and were readily available. The public bus costs less that $1.00, was about a block away, and was safe and fun. My husband said the beach was only okay. The gym is old, but renovations are underway. The staff again was knowledgable and helpful. I would stay at the hotel again. I loved Cartagena. We stayed at the Estelar Santa Marta. We were originally directed to a room facing the street, but were requested and were given a room facing the pool. Again, clean, comfortable, good hot water and airconditioning. Their was no gym and the pools were small. The beach was actually quite nice; the water was not blue, but green, and was warm, clean, and wonderful for swimming or just bathing. Again the staff was helpful, ad breakfast good. At the tour trip to Tayrona Park we have a ball: on our return trip, we rode the Chiva bus (interestering and fun). Overall, we were very happy. We will definitely use your website again
