It now has some new cabins. One is River Edge Cabin, ideal for eco-honeymooners who really want to be away from it all. This lodge is in the northern area of San Jose, deep in the heart of the rainforest, and surrounded by the Braulio Carrillo National Park.

Rara Avis is both a biological research station and tourist center; known for its bird life with more that 340 species identified so far. The lodge is adjacent to the Braulio Carillo National Park and in the area surrounding it there are many trails that make lovely nature walks which can be enjoyed with the assistance of a guide. The lodge stands 700 meters above sea level where the climate stays cool and comfortable all year-round. The rooms featured are the waterfall lodge and the river-edge cabin both of which are comfortably decorated and furnished with wood.

• Waterfall Lodge
  A comfortable but rustic lodge with eight rooms set in the jungle, each with a private bath and wrap-around balcony. Each room is a corner room and has a double bed, a single, and one or two fold-down bunks or loft beds.
  
  
• River-Edge Cabin
  This secluded two-room River Edge Cabin -- ideal for birdwatchers and honeymoon couples. Each room has two double beds, a private bath with hot water, and solar-electric lighting. The shared balcony with hammocks offers an unequaled view of the forest, accompanied by the murmur of the river.
