General facility

The Napo Wildlife Center is the greatest and ultimate alternative luxury ecohotel in Amazonian Ecuador. This Amazon Lodge, part of the Tropical Nature conservation system, is a community-based ecotourism project that has turned the surrounding 82 square miles into a private reserve within Yasuní National Park. Ecuador`s two most accessible parrot clay licks are located on Napo Wildlife Center land, and Giant Otters inhabit the lake in front of the lodge.

Situated on a blackwater lake near the Napo River, the Napo Wildlife Center complex features a dining room, bar and lounge and an adjacent observation tower. Buildings keep the traditional native architecture with harmonious modern mixture inside providing cool shaded terraces with inviting hammocks and ample space from where visitors may observe the surroundings. The hall has a library with books on local birds and tropical ecology, next door the bar provides ice-cold beer, wine, soft drinks and other liquor selections.

Getting There:
The journey to the lodge starts in Quito, departing at 11:00 a.m., a 35-minute flight will take you from its national airport to Coca airport, where a representative will greet and take you for a short 5 - 7 minute drive to the dock for a 2-hour boat ride downstream the largest Ecuadorian tributary of the Amazon: the Napo river.

The boat will arrive to the northwest boundary of the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve where the lodge is located by the Anangucocha lake. Upon arrival, you switch to smaller, dugout canoes to be paddled up the blackwater creek to the lake and lodge (no motorized transport is allowed on the creek so wildlife isn`t disturbed). As you get deeper into this preserved area, you will be surprised by the oftenly seen monkeys of several species, colourful birds and other amazing potential wildlife encounters. You will have lunch en route and arrive at the lodge by late afternoon.

Your flight back from Coca airport to Quito`s national airport departs at 11.55 a.m.
