Trip Summary
3 nights in Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is the most visited city in the southern hemisphere, owing at least partially to the 2,000,000 people that pour into its streets, hotels, clubs and restaurants each year for Rio's legendary Carnival celebration, but any time is a good time to visit Rio, and revelers flock to this exhilarating city to enjoy its stunning vistas, perfect weather, sizzling nightlife, and fabled white sand urban beaches with alluring names like Copacabana, and Ipanema, that evoke samba music, and a uniquly Brazilian sensuality.
Other famous landmarks here include the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer ('Cristo Redentor') perched at the top of Corcavado Mountain, and Rios's most recognizable natural monument, Sugarloaf mountain (Pão de Açúcar) with its network of cable cars straddling the ocean and the Baia de Guanabara.
Rio has been selected to host, both the final match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and the 2016 Summer Olympics, the first South American country to ever be so honored, so in a city already passionate about sports, especially futball, one could assume that the parties have already started and will continue through 2016, unless that is Brazil wins the World Cup. In that case, all predicitions are off.
Rio de Janeiro is without question a city that people just love to visit, and the reasons for this are as inexhaustible as things to do in this electrifying city, With four and five star accommodations lining Rio's beachfront strips, and stylish boutiques available in its historic Harbor District, Rio make a perfect centaral hub for connections to and from just about all of Brazil's spectacular destinations. Our featured Rio itineraries, can help show you how to link the "Marvelous City," as it is know in Brazil, with the rest of this remarkable country. Samba anyone?
2 nights in Iguassu Falls
Recognized by many as the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, the Iguassu Falls, which straddles the border between Brazil, and Argentina is a spectacular natural wonder that is shared by the two countries, and is one of the most popular destinations in all of South America.
Second only to Niagara Falls in flow, Iguassu is actually 275 individual falls, and can be accessed from many more vantage points than either Niagara or Victoria falls in Africa. Iguassu's unique shape creates spellbinding views with dramatic accessible walkways, that afford visitors unsurpassed panoramic vistas.
Although the falls are the main attraction here, the surrounding tropical forests feature stunning varieties of ferns, orchids, begonias, butterflies, exotic birds, and fascinating animal species. Iguazú National Park which encompasses the falls, occupies 212 square miles of tropical forest habitat, and was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984.
Iguassu Falls is an awe inspiring Brazilian destination, and we have created a number of featured itineraries that can help you include this amazing spectacle in your vacation plans, combined with other spectacular Brazilian destinations.
3 nights in Buenos Aires
Built in the image of the great European cities, Buenos Aires is Argentina's cultural epicenter, known for its music and dance, its cuisine, fine wines, and vibrant night life. Although it has retained much of its Colonial European influence the design and architecture in Bueno Aires reflects influences not only from Spain, but in many cases Paris, Rome and other Euro capitals as well.
Buenos Aires is divided into neighborhoods or barrios, each with its own personality and unique flavor, and cafes, tango bars, clubs, restaurants, museums, and great shopping will make any visit to Buenos Aires fly by.
So whether you are headed from here to the splendor of Patagonia, the wine region, or the majesty of Iguazu Falls, Buenos Aires is a city that will remain in your memory long after the last tango has ended.
2 nights in Montevideo
Situated on the east bank of the Rio de la Plata which separates Uruguay from Argentina, Montevideo is the hub of commerce, education and tourism in the small, but dynamic country of Uruguay. The streets are lined with European style coffee houses, and the city is famous for its outdoor markets and mouth watering barbeque. The Ciudad Vieja area, where most of Montevideo's travelers gather to enjoy the city's oldest architecture, museums, art galleries, nightclubs, and the café's and restaurants and shops of the Mercado del Puerto.
There are also colorful neighborhoods, flea markets, the central Plaza Independencia, and the scenic Ramblaa, a waterside roadway for biking, fishing, drinking mate, and enjoying 13.6 miles of great views along Montevideo's lovely waterfront.
Accommodations in Montevideo include lavish international chains as well as local boutiques, and our flexible itineraries and help you link any of Uruguay's most exciting destinations as well as its neighbors in Argentina, Brazil and the rest of Latin America.

My vacation was excellent.
Hotels:
Art Hotel: excellent value, great boutique hotel
Estancia: despite the cold, it was very hospitable. Great food, very comfortable rooms. Good activities
Tryp Hotel: Modern, business hotel but good location, comfortable and great staff.
Falls Galli: Not a good hotel. The quality was low, especially the rooms. It was clean, but the rooms were sub-par. The staff were not very helpful and didn`t have the best attitude
Windsor Palace: Great location, very good staff. Very small room, but clean and comfortable.
Food (breakfasts) at all hotels were good.
Transfer:
Tour Operator in Argentina: Very helpful, friendly, accomodating, on time
Tour Operator in Uruguay: friendly, punctual, but fell short. They could have been more helpful at the airport when we got stuck because of the ash. Our guide got us some help, then left very quickly. We don`t think this was the fault of her, but she was underpaid and obviously under a lot of pressure from her boss.
Tour Operator In Iguassu: Great! Our driver was very friendly and helpful. He helped us a lot in the airport when we got stuck again because of the ash. We sent an email directly to this company because of how good the service was.
Tour Operator In Rio: Despite not speaking much English, the driver was very friendly and did his best to communicate with us. But the tour guide (whose number we were given upon arrival) was not very responsive to our questions and bookings. It took him a long time to return our emails/calls.
Flights:
The flights from Montevideo to the Falls would have been fine had there not been the problem with the ash, but because there was, we ran into lots of trouble. (Because each airline would tell us to talk to the other - Pluna and Tam). Because of this, we don`t recommend having flights booked through two airlines. However, when we got stuck in the Falls TAM did get us re-booked quickly and paid for our hotel. (We did not get this the first time we were bumped because of the ash)
Also, we recommend that people do not fly from BA to Montevideo (or vice versa). They should take the ferry. We spent far too much time in the airport in BA to make it worth it (plus our 35 minute flight was delayed by 45 minutes). It would have been worth the extra money to do the ferry or hydrofoil.
Brenda, the agency rep was helpful, friendly and patient with all my questions. She is looking into some reimbursements from the company for our hotel mix-ups due to our flight changes because of the volcano.
The website was fine. I was able to find what I wanted.

We had a wonderful trip.Everything ran smoothly and all of the guides were right on time to pick us up.The females were better overall than the male guides in terms of giving us details about the city and tips on what to do. However, all the guides were most helpful in doing everything that we asked of them.We will defintely recommend Latin Destinations to others -- and will use you for our next trip to South America!
