Chile

Chile is a country of towering volcanic peaks, the world's most arid desert, awesome glaciers. It is also one of South America's friendliest and safest countries. Santiago, Chile's capital city, is one of the most scenic and sophisticated metropolitan areas in all of Latin America, and this amazing country also posesses broad sandy beaches, renown vineyards, the continents best skiing, and is the gateway to Cape Horn, Antarctica, and Easter Island, the eerie Polynesian home of the iconic Moai sculptures.

We had a fantastic trip to Chile and Argentina for our honeymoon, with great help from you.Logistically, every element of our trip went very smooth including flights, hotels, transfers, and guides. We were picked up when and where we expected to be each time. Our guides were friendly and helpful. All of our flights and hotels were booked properly. We did the Lake Crossing as part of our trip, which was terrific, though there were a few thoughts we had on how it could have been better. The timeline we expected for several departures and lengths of stay ended up being inaccurate (including the times that were listed on the vouchers we received at the very beginning of the Lake Crossing), and we waited a long time for several of the ferries to depart. Communication seemed to be lacking in explaining the next element of the trip.None of this took away from how enjoyable the Lake Crossing was, and we are very happy we did it, but organizationally, it could have been improved. We stayed at 5 different hotels over the course of our trip, and specifically El Casco in Bariloche was incredible - the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming and the hotel grounds and our room were phenomenal. Of the 5, Colonos Del Sur in Puerto Varas was our least favorite -the room was small and could use some sprucing up. The only excursion we booked through Latin Destinations was a one-day trip from Santiago to Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. It was an enjoyable trip, though it was heavier on seeing different views than on historical background - we would have liked a better balance. Also, from a timing standpoint, our stop for lunch in Vina del Mar was later in the day than we would have liked - we could have used a stop for lunch earlier - and it was also at a very expensive restaurant, which we didn`t expect. In fact, over the course of our entire trip of nearly 2 weeks, that was the most expensive meal we had. It was delicious and was in a very nice setting, but the cost was unexpected. Overall, we were extremely happy with our trip and with the service provided by Latin Destinations. We would certainly be interested in using Latin Destinations in the future, and we would likewise be happy to recommend you to family and friends.Thank you!.

Hi, I`m pleased to be asked to provide you with feedback from my trip. The trip was well thought out. I had a wonderful experience. My flights to Santiago went without incident. All were on time. LAN Chile is an excellent airline. Great service and good food which would not have disgraced a restaurant let alone an airline. The hotel in Santiago, the Meridiano Sur, was excellent. It is well placed in Providencia for the Metro and downtown Santiago. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The day clerk, a young guy and the night clerk, an older lady, spoke excellent English; the day clerk gave me a list of good restaurants in the area, placed on a Google Map. The room was a little small, but perfectly adequate for a single person and was clean and in good repair. The bathroom, too, was in very good shape. Your local guide did a good job considering she had to wait a long time for me at the Santiago airport. I was trying to find my baggage, and then spent some time talking to the LAN Chile people about it. But Julie had waited. She picked me up on time for the return journey to the airport, and was very helpful with all kinds of advice. Her English was excellent, too. Breakfasts had variety and the breakfast room welcoming. Sky Services were on time getting to Puerto Montt. Here, I think I made a mistake. I know the itinerary said this stop was Puerto Varas, but I chose the only hotel on the list which is in Puerto Montt. This town is dull, grimy and run down and has no buildings of interest, save the Cathedral. I should have picked a hotel in Puerto Varas, which I visited next day, a much nicer place. So is Frutiliar, further up Lagos LLanquihue. The only redeeming feature about the location of Puerto Montt, is that it is handy for excursions to the Island of Chiloe, which has a good deal of historical significance. The Gran Hotel Don Luis in Puerto Montt was very good, however. The staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. The desk clerks spoke English quite well. The room was more than adequate and breakfasts were varied and on time. The local guide, speaking adequate English, was on time both from the airport, and to the coach for the Lakes Crossing. The Lakes Crossing was one of the most beautiful trips I`ve experienced in spite of the rainy weather. The Hotel Peulla, is superb in every way. The old part is being renovated, so everyone stayed in the new (3 years old) Hotel Peulla Natura. The staff in Peulla has lot of side trips worth experiencing; all free, and are courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. Again, their English is good. Almost all the other passengers on the Lakes Crossing were Brazilians. I was the only English speaking passenger on board. But the guides, both on the Chilean and Argentinean side always translated their remarks into English. The quality of the vehicles used throughout the trip was very good, mechanically (especially on the rough road sections crossing into Argentina) and were quite comfortable, as were the catamarans. Your local provider in Argentina is not quite up to par with the one in Chile. There was no guide, only a driver, and none of the 3 drivers had adequate English. The one taking me to the Buenos Aires airport almost took the wrong passenger at the hotel. But he did realize that he had only one person to take, when 3 others tried to get into his taxi instead. The Nahuel Huapi Hotel in Bariloche was very comfortable and the staffs as everywhere were helpful and friendly. Breakfast had plenty of variety. The location in the Retiro area, of the hotel Dazzler Suites Arroyo in Buenos Aires, is a good one. But the hotel itself was not up to par. I had just unpacked a few of my belongs when I saw a hole drilled 3 cm in diameter in the ceiling directly over the toilet. The ceiling around it was dry but stained and I assumed it had been leaking at some time. A few minutes later, water trickled out of it on to the toilet and ruined my toilet bag lying on the tank top. The investigating desk clerk said he would put some tape over the hole. But I insisted on having another room, and was given one without argument. In both rooms the safes did not work and the general air was one of neglect. The carpet was dirty; the windows rattled in the wind at night and had to be quieted with wads of paper stuck in the runners. The public areas of the hotel on the ground floor and breakfast room were quite good, however. In other ways the staff was very professional and helpful. I understand renovations are being planned. The only time my voucher was questioned was at the American Airlines check-in. I have travelled any number of times with vouchers and have never had them challenged. Otherwise, I had a great trip. I would certainly recommend your website to anyone who asks. The format and procedures you have for booking such flexible itineraries is a winner, I feel. Many thanks.

YOU ALL DID AN EXCELLENT JOB! ALL OUR DRIVERS AND GUIDES WERE ON TIME AND VERY EFFICIENT. I LOVED MOST OF THE HOTELS....THE ONES ON THE LAKE CROSSINGS WERE MINIMAL. THE ONLY THING NOT GOOD WAS THE WEATHER....IT RAINED FOR ALMOST THE ENTIRE TIME. VERY COLD SPRING. WE DID HAVE A GREAT TIME AND WOULD RECOMMEND YOUR AGENCY TO OTHERS.

Our vacation to Chile and Argentina went very well! Every hotel was as expected or better and every time we had to go from one place to another, we knew exactly where to go and who to go with. In addition, all of our hotels were within walking distance of the sights we wanted to see or a Metro station to quickly go to other parts of the city. I`ll provide some quick feedback on each hotel: Ritz-Carlton Santiago - The nicest hotel of our trip, everything about this hotel was great Sheraton Vina Del Mar - This hotel was really nice and had the best gym of any hotel. The location was perfect. Cabanas Del Lago (Puerto Varas) - This hotel was better than we expected it to be. The view from our room was great. We would also recommend anyone taking a vacation to Chile to go to Puerto Varas. Hotel Tres Reyes (Bariloche) - This hotel was as expected. It was clean and had good service. There were better hotels close by in town. The location was within walking distance of anything in town. Sofitel Buenos Aires - This hotel was very luxurious and in a great location. Overall, we would not only recommend your web site to our friends, but we will use it next time we book a trip to Latin America and the Caribbean. The web site was very easy to use and provided a lot of options. Because we had to modify our itinerary in a particular way to see family, we had to work with one of your agents, Victor. He did a great job in all aspects of the trip. We even contacted him while on the trip to get help with a flight and he responded to our request on a Sunday. Thank you for making our vacation a memorable one!

Santiago
Santiago is a colorful and sophisticated city that percolates with all manner of activity. Nearly a third of the country's population lives Santiago, and nearly every visitor to Chile spends some time here. This is of course the gateway to the Chilean Andes and its natural wonders, the southernmost regions of South America and the mysteries of Antarctica , but Santiago is a scenic and exhilarating destination in its own right, where international vacationers, business professionals, and the local population create a diverse blend, that has helped to make Santiago a truly cosmopolitan city.

A city of barrios, each with its own flavor, Santiago is blessed with a rich local cuisine, and is situated in Chile's renowned wine growing region, so tours of the vineyards here are a very popular activity amongst visitors. Whether sampling a frosty belinda at a local café, dining at one of the many trendy international restaurants, enjoying Santiago's electrifying nightlife, shopping in its boutiques and markets or taking in the churches, museums, and well preserved colonial architecture along the Alameda, this is a city that will not disappoint.

Santiago boasts an array of 4 and 5 star hotels, as well as more modest boutique, bed and breakfast style properties scattered around some of the older and quieter neighborhoods, and day trips can be arranged to visit some of the country's best vineyards, or tour Santiago's wealth of cultural and historical landmarks.

If you are a skier, and are lucky enough to be here in the winter months (June-September) Valle Nevado's 300 skiable acres are just an hour's drive, or head for Portillo, Chile's premiere ski resort and be the envy of your skier friends back home. The warmest months in Santiago are December - February, but although great winter activities are quite nearby, you can depend on spring like weather even during the coldest months and summer weather (mid 70°- 90°F) for most of the year.

Santiago is a place that can be enjoyed by almost anyone, and our flexible itineraries will help you get the most out of Santiago, Chile, and the rest of Latin America.
