Xunantunich is located on a natural limestone ridge three miles from San Ignacio, and accessible only by a short ferry ride across the Mopan River. It stands 130ft (40 meters) high and gives a panoramic view of the Cayo District and Guatemala. Xunantunich was a major ceremonial site, built on a natural limestone ridge during the Classic Period. It is composed of six major plazas, surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces.After lunch and sodas, you will depart for an afternoon visit to the Cahal Pech archaeological site, which means Place of the Ticks and is one of the medium sized Maya centers.It is situated along the bank of the Macal River in the Cayo District and will offer you a panoramic view of San Ignacio and the Belize River Valley.
