Orange Walk District and its principal town of the same name, are situated north of Belize City. Orange Walk Town is about 55 miles from Belize City. The main tourist attractions are the New River and the famous Mayan ruins of Lamanai. Mexican influence is evident and there are some Mennonite communities in the area.

FAMILIES: Lamani Outpost Lodge: The lodge is a 20 minute walk from the ruins, with beautiful natural surroundings, good food. The cabanas are rustic, cozy and well suited for the jungle, very nice and clean, with panoramic views to the lagoon. Great for bird watching. Chaan-Chich: A first-class property, in western Orange Walk District. This is a destination into itself, you can take a charter plane from Belize and spend your entire time here. The setting is incredible, it looks like a modern Mayan city, thatched cabanas share space with partially excavated ruins in the central plaza of a Mayan archaeological site. The lodge sits on 230,00 acres of land, some of it is a working farm. This is a birders paradise. Spacious cottages, grounds are beautiful, with a great swimming pool. Truly great property.
