Nazca Lines - Paracas
It is generally believed that the Nazca Lines were created nearly 2000 years ago by the indigenous Paraca people, but there are endless theories to explain their origin and use including suggestions that the images were astronomical maps, agricultural calendars, even messages left by visiting aliens. What we do know is that the gigantic images have been fascinating observers since their discovery in the 1930s, and that they can only be fully appreciated from the air.
The Paracas National Reservation, and the nearby Ballestas Islands are musts for eco-enthusiasts visiting Nazca Lines-Paracas. Considered one of the richest and most unique ecosystems in the world, the reservation was declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and is the only protected marine area in Peru. Within the Reserve are the spectacular Ballestas Islands, known for its caves and arches is inhabited by thousands bird and mammal species, and animal species.
