The narrow peninsula of Placencia slithers down the southern coast of Belize like a snake. The eastern shoreline is 15 miles of continuous white sand beach. On the western side, a finger-shaped lagoon separates the peninsula from mainland Belize. Placencia village is a Creole fishing village with a laid-back attitude. Other charming villages are the Creole Independence, and the Garifuna Seine Bright.

Low-key activities such as swimming, snorkeling, sea-kayaking, around Laughing Bird Caye, Ranguana Caye or the Silk Cayes; Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary; kayak through the lagoon side of Placencia, plenty of mangroves, birds.

Most of the lodging is north of the village. They all offer various water sports, activities and local excursions.

COUPLES:
Turtle Inn: For couples that are looking to be pampered, very elegant. Each Balinese-inspired cabana has artisan-crafted furnishings, a luxury private bath and a panoramic view of the sea. The only drawback is that it has no a/c, so make sure you have an oceanfront cabana.
Inn at Robert Grove: More affordable, modern, and comfortable accommodations. This hotel has very high standards, personal attention and terrific food.

FAMILIES:
Roberts Grove: The Jr. suites have kitchenettes. Rum Point: This hotel has one of the nicest beaches in the area. With more eclectic buildings, but a great place for families.
