Essence of the Area
Porto de Galinhas is one of the nicest beach destinations in the Northeast. There are no high-rises, just small pousadas and a few low-rise hotels. The town boasts perhaps four streets: enough for a dozen restaurants, a bank, some surf shops, and a beachside bar or two.
The main attraction at Porto de Galinhas is the beach, whether you swim, surf, snorkel, or snooze. There are 120 kilometres of beaches to the south of Recife, a destination with exotic appeal. There are several white sandy and particularly beautiful beaches. The tropical climate is met by gentle breezes from the sea.
Getting There
Porto de Galinhas is about 60 km south of Recife. Visitors arrive at the airport in Recife and then continue by land to Porto de Galinhas. Leaving Recife, the picturesque journey takes you through the beautiful green landscape, past palm trees and through some sleepy local villages.
You can arrive and departure from Recife to most major Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Salvador da Bahia and Fortaleza. Purchasing the Brazilian air pass together with your international fare can decrease the cost of flying between many different cities in Brazil.
