Puerto Viejo is a small village with more influence of the local Bribri indigenous culture. Here, you can find the best surfing of this coast. The mixture of black and indigenous cultures is very interesting: you can buy Bibri handicrafts and listen to raggae or calypso music. Puerto Limon is a popular cruise port and longtime fishermen's heaven. A number of fishing lodges stretch out along the Tortuguero Canal, where the 47,000-acre Tortuguero National Park is known for its abundant and endangered wildlife.

This is truly an exceptional tour. You'll visit Amubri, Bribri and Cachabri indigenous villages, located about three hours from Almonds and Corals up into the Talamanca mountain range. You'll get to the Sixaola River in our private bus, where you'll transfer by boat to the other side. Our guides will be with you the entire way as you catch the public bus that the indigenous use to reach Amubri. Throughout the bus ride, you'll be able to see the community's daily rhythm of life. You'll see cocoa plantations, bananas, thatched-roof huts, chickens, pigs, and dogs as you observe the basic simplicity of this people's way of life. You'll reach Amubri and then Cachabri after 45 minutes on the road, and at Cachabri you'll be met by an Awa (local medicine man). He will take you to the ousureo, a conical thatch building used for ceremonies, where he'll tell you about the local people's traditions, beliefs, and some rituals they perform. Throughout this tour, your expert guide will translate all this information. Near the ousureo is the orowe, which is another construction used for social gatherings. After this introduction, we'll talk to their botanical garden, and the Awa himself will explain the garden's purpose, and about the many different medicinal plants they have and how they prepare them. On the way back to the village, you'll see the large, flat stone they locals use to grind their grains and you'll hear the fascinating story about bringing this particular one up from the river. You'll return to the orowe for a picnic box lunch. Early in the afternoon, passengers will catch the public bus back to the Sixaola River and then back to Almonds and Corals. On the way back we'll visit the Iguana Project that the Bribri Indians run, as well. INCLUDES: Transportation with air condition, bilingual tour guide and box lunch.
