Caruaru Caruaru The city of Caruaru has many fairs and religious festivals. It is accessible by train or automobile from Recife (132 Km). The outdoor market offers products that reflect the folklore and creativity of the area with artifacts, antiques and many curiosities. UNESCO designed Caruaru as the biggest center of figurative art in the Americas. Its community has more than 1,000 artists that work everyday with ceramic, tradition brought by Mestre Vitalino for about a century. Caruaru is also known as the capital of "Forro". A typical dance that can be specially noticed around the Sao Joao saint festivities time (Jun 24). During the whole month of June, thousands of people from all over the country come to dance Forro in Caruaru. The event happens on 200 streets that are covered and decorated with tents, lights, flags and fireworks. Caruaru has a complete structure for tourism, including hotels, restaurants, banks, hospitals, airport, museums, and nightlife. |
Nova Jerusalem The entire city of Nova Jerusalem is an open-air 70,000-square-meter theater enclosed by stone walls guarded by 7 towers overlooking 7 entrances, about one-third the area of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus. Throughout the city there are 12 granite sculptures which take the part of stages for the event, establishing the route followed by actors and spectators alike. The city of Nova Jerusalem sprouts within the mineral springs resort of Fazenda Nova, county Brejo da Madre de Deus, 180 kms away from Recife. Fazenda Nova is a town with camping grounds, good hotels, typical fruits, lovely crafts and balmy weather as well as mineral waters welcome visitors who expect the best. Even though Nova Jerusalem keeps wide open gates throughout the year, the best occasion to visit the city is just before Easter. when the play takes place. A breathless public quietly listen to a mammoth light and sound display unfolding the drama of a Holy Life shining among others. Well performed by actors whose words and breath intakes can be heard over a sophisticated sound system of over 200 speakers.
