Tortuguero National Park
"Tortuguero" came from the Spanish name for the giant sea turtles. This 18,946-hectare coastal park is the most important breeding ground for the green sea turtle in all the Caribbean.
Sea Turtles
Green turtles are perhaps the most common turtle found in Tortuguero, so you're more likely to see one of them than any other species if you visit during the prime nesting season.
Fishing
Fishing takes place year-round. You can do it in the rivers, canals and sea.
Caribbean Conservation Corporation
The CCC has a Research Station about one km north of Tortuguero village, which explains its turtle conservation and research work.
C.C.C.
Hiking to Cerro Tortuguero
Hikers can climb the 119 meters height, about six km north of the village. You need to hire a boat and guide to get there. Cerro Tortuguero is the highest point right on the coast, anywhere north of Limon. The path is very steep and usually muddy, but gives good views of the forest, canals, sea, and birds.
