Ground transportation in Argentina is most often used for hotel and airport transfers, or for pre-arranged excursions, with the exception of destinations that are in close proximity to each other such as El Calafate and El Chalten (3 hour drive), or from Buenos Aires to the Estancias near Buenos Aires (2 hour drive). When transferring from the airport to your hotel, or returning to the airport from your hotel, the best way to avoid stressful situations, and insure that your vacation will begin as soon as you arrive in Buenos Aires is with an experienced driver in a private car reserved exclusively for your party. In the booking process you will also have the option to choose an English speaking guide, otherwise qualified Spanish speaking drivers are provided. Vehicles are modern and comfortable, and are typically equipped with air conditioning and internal radio communications. This is the only method of transfer we can recommend in Argentina, with the exception of car rental which we discuss below. See Details

This option is only available for certain pre-arranged activities and organized excursions from hotels to tourist destinations. These trips can involve multiple stops, and we cannot guarantee the order in which you will picked up or dropped off.

Rental cars are available in many Argentinean destinations, and may be appropriate for independent travelers who are very secure about their driving skills, but this option for the most part applies primarily to areas in such as Patagonia where there are multiple destinations relatively close proximity to each other, or in areas with many nearby attractions to explore. Please keep in mind that although Argentina has a well developed infrastructure, it is a huge country, and distances between many of the most popular attractions can be more than a thousand miles. The distance for instance from Buenos Aires to El Calafate is in excess of 1,500 miles, clearly further than most travelers want to spend driving while on vacation. Additionally, although the roads themselves are fairly well maintained in the major cities, local drivers here are notorious for ignoring traffic signals and regulations. It can be particularly treacherous at night, and Argentina has an extremely high accident rate when compared with other South American countries.
