FERNANDINA
(NARBOROUGH)
Very close to Isabela, Fernandina has an important volcano that has erupted several times in this century; the last one was just three years ago. It is an extremely arid island where almost all the fauna is concentrated along the coast. The only visit site is called Punta Espinosa, and is one of the most interesting places in Galapagos. The trail is easy and goes along the coast. There are beautiful mangroves and tidal pools where you can find baby sea lions. Is has the biggest concentrations of marine iguanas, Galapagos hawks are not rare and the rare flightless cormorant, unique to Isabela and Fernandina, nests near the water. This is an excellent place for photographs because of the diversity of animals and the beautiful landscape. It also offers volcanic views and formations of pahoehoe lava. Diving You can snorkel to see penguins, marine turtles and iguanas feeding under water. |
